I love my African violets. I have some that have bloomed for years with little care..they seem to thrive here. Once in awhile they grow long, long, woody stems and seem to try to migrate out and away from their pots. That is my cue to re-pot them....
they won't grow for me but I tend to overwater them. Some people, like you, seem to have the knack with them. I've tried lots of times as I love their flowers.
Being now partially disabled I had to switch from outdoor gardening, which I have been a keen exponent for 40 odd years (my Grandfather a professional gardener inspired me in my young teens), to houseplants. I hope this blog inspires others to explore the fascinating worlds of houseplants, exotic and tender plants. It is a rich and diverse world, full of fascinating characters, both plants and people. Enjoy.
nb. this blog also contains posts / pictures on my research into the history of greenhouses and conservatories.

Do you yourself have many African violets?
Hi Kathy,
they won't grow for me but I tend to overwater them. Some people, like you, seem to have the knack with them. I've tried lots of times as I love their flowers.
Love the african Violets especially the varieties that have color on their leaves.
So do I Cathy, but I sweem not to be able to grow them for more than a month or so.
